Committed to make fresh produce available to each one of the 90,000 locations it serves. The company will also launch twelve healthier new private label products and clearly identify all healthier products offered, as well as broker pricing deals, in an effort to incentivize its customers to make the healthy choice when stocking their stores.

    McLane is making progress toward their commitment to develop and offer at least twelve new private label products that meet the PHA Healthier Food and Beverage Product Criteria, with three new products, CVP Pristyn bottled water, Hometown Market Salted Almonds and Hometown Market Salted Whole Cashews, now available.

    Progress To Date

    McLane exceeded its commitment to position at least five (5) items that meet the PHA Healthier Food and Beverage Product Criteria as 'Featured Products' on their Standardized Merchandizing Portal. Twelve healthier items are featured with the PHA logo and language indicating that each meets PHA’s criteria.

    Extend discount to customers on one or more products that meet the PHA Healthier Food and Beverage Product Criteria via negotiations with food manufacturers, a minimum of once per quarter for duration of commitment.

    McLane met its commitment by offering a customer discount on 18 different products and product pack sizes that meet the PHA Healthier Food and Beverage Product Criteria. Discounts will be available for 8 months during 2017.

    McLane met its commitment by providing a “Better For You” product bundle consisting of three healthier private label products, CVP Pristyn bottled water, Hometown Market Salted Almonds and Hometown Market Salted Whole Cashews, which meet PHA's Food and Beverage Product Criteria.

    Commitment Element

    Through increased employee promotion, relaunch activity tracker program whereby teammates can receive a wearable activity tracker free of cost (with documentation of annual physician check-up, on a first come, first served basis) until remaining supply lasts., and upon depletion of supply in 2017 or anytime thereafter during the course of this commitment, offer on a first come first serve basis to for up to 15% of the remaining teammate population per division.

    McLane launched a FitBit activity tracker program in 2015, with company-wide promotion in 2016. 194 FitBit activity trackers have been distributed to employees since 2015.

    Implement and distribute to all teammates a healthier food catering guide for corporate meetings and events

    Progress To Date

    McLane met its commitment by distributing the Healthy Choices Catering Guide to all Human Resource Managers and instructing them share the guide with all teammates responsible for organizing meetings, functions and events for teammates, visitors and guests. The guide includes required language promoting fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy, lean proteins, whole grains and healthier beverages.

    Share news of PHA partnership and relevant PHA content in quarterly teammate magazine, on corporate website, on employee webinar, in monthly teammate meeting(s) and feature PHA in spotlight area of MyMcLane teammate portal

    McLane met its commitment by sharing information about the PHA partnership and PHA initiatives with company teammates through their MERIT employee magazine, teammate meetings, content developed for closed circuit break room televisions, content in quarterly teammate magazine, on the corporate website and as a feature in the spotlight area of MyMcLane teammate portal.

    Place Drink Up signage at water coolers, water fountains, and/or water dispensers in distribution centers to enhance employee exposure to Drink Up, for duration of commitment.

    Progress To Date

    McLane met its commitment by distributing Drink Up marketing materials to all Human Resources Managers with instructions to post signage where teammates consume water. Twenty McLane facilities have posted Drink Up signage.

“McLane is committed to working with PHA and supporting its goal of solving the childhood obesity crisis within a generation. McLane’s commitments include:

  • Sharing our PHA partnership with our retail partners and encouraging them to provide healthier options at their stores. Initiatives include: extending discounts to customers on products that meet PHA’s Healthier Food and Beverage Product Criteria, offering better-for-you product bundles every quarter and creating and distributing better-for-you planograms that include only products that meet the PHA’s Healthier Food and Beverage Product Criteria.

  • Communicating our partnership with PHA to McLane teammates and encouraging them to make healthy lifestyle choices. Initiatives include: announcements of our commitment in email communication, print signage, company intranet, corporate website and a four-page spread detailing the partnership in McLane’s biannual internal company magazine.

  • Partnering with PHA’s signature initiative Drink Up by placing Drink Up signage at all water sources throughout over 80 McLane locations. Together, McLane and PHA will encourage teammates to drink water more often.

In addition, to the commitments above, McLane will continue to develop private label products that meet PHA’s criteria under McLane’s private label company CVP, as well as continue to offer FNV and Drink Up marketing materials to retailer partners.”
