    Commitment Element

    Provide marked walking routes on campus, one of which must be at least two (2) miles in length and have distance markers at regular intervals. A route map is made available to individuals on campus.

    Progress To Date

    California State University, Sacramento’s Healthy Hornet Path offers a two-mile walking trail on campus with mile markers placed at every 0.25 mile. A map of the walking trail is available on the University’s website.

    Commitment Element

    Provide designated bicycle lanes on major roads and/or offer off-street bicycle paths throughout campus.

    Progress To Date

    California State University, Sacramento offers eight bike lanes covering two miles and six off-street bicycle paths covering 2.7 miles on campus. All bicycle lanes are painted in accordance with the Sacramento State Facilities Services Bike Planning Project specifications created in 2014 and are at least four feet in width.

    Implement a campus-wide program/policy that incentivizes the use of public or campus provided transportation.

    Progress To Date

    California State University, Sacramento incentivizes public transportation through its Regional Transit Commuter Sleeve program. Students and employees may ride all Sacramento Regional Transit fixed-route transit services, including the light rail, by presenting a valid Sacramento State OneCard and the student commuter sleeve. Students pay a nominal fee for this service through their registration fees and employees may purchase a six-month employee commuter sleeve for $40 each semester. In 2019, 29,050 sleeves were distributed to students and 313 to employees.

    Implement a service learning program available to all students that focuses on food and nutrition and/or physical activity/movement and/or coaching.

    Progress To Date

    California State University, Sacramento’s Peer Health Educators internship program offers students an opportunity to actively promote health and wellness while serving as an important connection between Student Health and Counseling Services and the campus community. Through classroom presentations, workshops, special events and other activities, peer health educators provide accurate information and positive support to help students reduce their health risks and increase wellness. The year-long academic and hands-on learning program is open to all majors and offers students the opportunity to plan and implement educational programs, build leadership and communication skills, work collaboratively across a variety of health and wellness topics, explore careers related to health and wellness and earn academic units.
