    Train a minimum of 300 coaches per year in sports-based youth development methodology

    Progress To Date

    With part of Mercedes-Benz USA's investment in Laureus USA, Laureus USA provided $1.5 million in grants to two national coaching organizations that train and place coaches in schools and communities with sports and youth development programs for at-risk youth. In 2017, the two organizations offered 88 training opportunities in 14 cities and online and trained a total of 7,072 coaches that reach 389,507 youth.

    Progress To Date

    With part of Mercedes-Benz USA's investment in Laureus USA, Laureus USA provided a total of $563,000 in new grants in 2017 to 27 organizations located in three of the six target cities (Atlanta, Chicago, and New York). Laureus USA has previously funded six organizations in an additional target city, New Orleans, that completed their grants in 2017. The programs funded through these grants reached 30,677 youth through activities such as providing opportunities to participate in high-quality physical activity programming, build sports skills, and gain confidence and life skills.

    With part of Mercedes-Benz USA's investment in Laureus USA, Laureus USA committed to provide $900,000 to six organizations in Atlanta over a three year period. In 2017, the six organizations received $300,000 to provide sports programming along with life skills and educational programs.

    In 2017, Mercedes-Benz USA provided 14 opportunities in 8 cities in 8 states for employees and dealers to engage with Laureus USA and projects funded by Mercedes-Benz USA. Employees and dealers were given opportunities to attend events, volunteer, and interact with youth and grantees.

“Mercedes-Benz USA, in partnership with Laureus Sport for Good Foundation USA (Laureus USA), has invested $8.4 million over three years to train and place coaches in underserved communities where youth-based sports programming is lacking. In 2017, Mercedes-Benz USA invested $2.8 million in Laureus USA. Working with Up2Us Sports and Playworks, with an eye toward providing a safe and engaging afterschool environment for at-risk youth, 7,072 coaches have been trained and 679 coaches have been placed in 149 metropolitan areas. These coaches have reached 389,507 youth in 2017. MBUSA’s investment in Laureus USA has also provided over $1.3 million in grants and services to 33 grassroots sport for development programming organizations operating in New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago, and New York City. These organizations have collectively reached over 30,500 youth in 2017, fostering improvements in health, education, and community cohesion. Notably, following the relocation of MBUSA headquarters to Atlanta, Laureus launched Laureus Sport for Good Atlanta, which will provide multi-year grants to youth-based sports programming organizations operating in Atlanta’s Westside community.”
