    University of New England provides short term bike rentals for the campus community with a fleet of 94 bicycles available at three residence halls.

    University of New England offers a range of diverse recreation, physical activity/movement and competitive sports opportunities including at least 6 group fitness and aquatic exercise classes, 6 outdoor recreation clubs and 12 intramural sports.

    Offer, without a user fee, both: a. Fitness/recreation center orientation during the first semester for all incoming students and b. One (1) fitness assessment all students each academic year.

    University of New England offers free one-on-one fitness orientations to all students and fitness center patrons. Each orientation features an introduction to the cardio, strength training and functional equipment in the fitness center.

    Offer a rewards-on-benefits structured program that gives insurance premium discounts and/or rebates to individuals on campus who participate in a wellness program designated by the health insurer or campus.

    Progress To Date

    Employees that have biometric screening conducted by a physician and complete a health self-assessment are eligible to participate in an incentive program that rewards individuals for participation in various health activities. Participants are awarded up to $100 per year in gift cards based on the number of health “milestones” achieved.

“The University of New England is pleased to be part of the Partnership for a Healthier America. Participation in the program has provided us with a blueprint that provides guidance on evaluating current services and implementing new ones that will increase the accessibility of healthy nutritional and physical options for our students. The health and wellness of our students is one the University’s top priorities and with each guideline we achieve it brings a step closer to becoming a healthier campus. Our campus center offers a wide variety of free services to all of our students from group exercise classes to personalized fitness programs created by certified professionals as well as a variety of outdoor rec options. The facility is outfitted with an indoor pool and track, full fitness center and basketball court. We also take pride in outdoor recreation services which offers free rentals of camping equipment, kayaks, bicycles and ski equipment. Our food service provider, Sodexo, has been a great partner and we look forward to work closely with them this year to work on achieving all of the nutritional guidelines focused on increasing the offerings of healthy meals, fruits, vegetables and whole grains. We are honored to be part of the Partnership for a Healthier America and constantly strive to provide our students with the healthiest campus possible.”
