Partner Statement

“Leech Lake Tribal College is a proud partner of Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) and has benefitted from the direction of the Healthier Campus Initiative guidelines. With a mission of providing quality higher education grounded in Anishinaabe values, LLTC has viewed a focus on overall campus health as a reflection of values such as zaagi’idiwin (love) and zoongide’iwin (courage). With the encouragement of PHA, LLTC has been providing healthier food and beverages at meals, which regularly include local, indigenous fare. The College has also willfully limited unhealthy selections and has been promoting multiple fruit and vegetable options at meals, to name just a few of the positive changes! Our 2016 campus survey reinforced our thoughts of an emerging healthier campus climate, as the response spoke to an overall increase in individual fruit and vegetable intake, a marked decrease in multiple barriers to healthier eating on campus, and a decrease in their weight status!”
