    Sixty-six percent (66%) of foodservice accounts will reach the Gold Level of implementation of the applicable Mindful Healthy Dining Program.

    Progress To Date

    In 2018, Sodexo administered a survey to managers responsible for 971 Sodexo food service accounts in corporate, government, and university settings. Responses were received for 626 accounts, a response rate of 64%. Of those that responded, 312 (50% of respondents, 32% overall) food service accounts reached the Gold Level of implementation for the Mindful Healthy Dining Program.

    Implement completely the PHA Hospital Healthy Food Initiative guidelines at 20% of hospital accounts

    Progress To Date

    As of 2018, 3 out of 596 (1%) Sodexo hospital accounts met all of the Hospital Healthy Food Initiative guidelines, including nutrition labeling, healthy food promotion, healthy check-out, food preparation, fruit and vegetable procurement, and healthier beverage procurement. A total of 164 hospitals (28%) met at least four of the guidelines.

    Remove all fryers and deep fat fried products offered in the cafeteria and on the general patient service menu.

    Progress To Date

    In 2018, 214 (36%) of Sodexo's 596 hospital accounts removed all fryers from their premises, offered no deep fat fried products in cafeterias or on patient menus, and met PHA nutrition criteria for pre-fried, par-fried, and flash fried foods.

    Achieve fruit and vegetable dollar purchases of 10% of total food dollar purchases.

    Progress To Date

    In 2018, 47 of Sodexo's hospital accounts provided food procurement records. Of these, 41 (87%) hospital accounts' records indicated they had achieved fruit and vegetable dollar purchases of 10% or more of total food purchases. Over 2017 and 2018, 89 (15%) of Sodexo's 596 hospital accounts provided procurement records to substantiate that at least 10% of their total food purchases were fruits and vegetables.

    Commitment Element

    Increase the percentage of healthier beverage dollar purchases of beverages for use throughout the hospital to 80% of overall beverage dollar purchases. Additionally, there will be tap water available where possible.

    Progress To Date

    In 2018, 63 of Sodexo's hospital accounts provided beverage procurement records. Of these, 10 (16%) hospital accounts' records indicated they had achieved healthier beverage dollar purchases of 80% or more of total beverage purchases. Over 2017 and 2018, 14 (2%) of Sodexo's 596 hospital accounts provided procurement records to substantiate that at least 80% of their total beverage purchases were healthier beverages that met specific nutrition criteria.

    Twenty percent (20%) of hospital accounts will reach the Gold Level of implementation of the Mindful Healthy Dining Program.

    In 2018, 65 of 596 (11%) Sodexo hospital accounts reached the Mindful Gold level of implementation.

“In 2014 we embarked upon a bold commitment to our customers across the U.S. where we serve millions across seven market segments. We are proud of our progress over the last five years:

  • We brought the Mindful by Sodexo healthy dining program to 958 locations, bringing more people delicious food in satisfying portions, with transparency of ingredients and engaging communications to make Mindful choices second nature.
  • 373 accounts reached the Gold level of implementation of Mindful by Sodexo Sodexo’s comprehensive standard for a healthier dining experience with 45 steps for integrating healthier options throughout the cafe. Another 268 sites implemented 40 or more of these steps.
  • 385 hospitals used the power of imagery, displaying and marketing only the healthier food options in cafeterias and on patient menus. 343 hospitals implemented a healthy check-out program where only healthier options can be displayed within 5 feet of cash registers. Both these approaches are wellness strategies for hospitals endorsed by PHA.
  • The majority of cultural destinations served by Sodexo switched to offering healthy sides and beverages as the default choice in kids’ meals.
  • Convenience Solutions by Sodexo now operates over 2,175 vending machines with at least 30% OPT Healthy selections. Healthier choices are now priced 10-20% less than indulgent options. Opt Healthy is now central to Convenience Solutions by Sodexo’s health and wellness strategy across vending, micromarkets and pantries.
  • 100% of the elementary, middle and high school accounts operated by Sodexo implemented a minimum of 9 proven behavioral economics techniques to promote healthier choices. 57% of all schools are using all 18 of these techniques.
  • At least 17 million free breakfast meals were served to children at our primary and secondary school accounts.
  • We were honored to be recognized with the first PHA Partner of the Year award.
