2018 Progress Report
Committed to evaluating and improving the nutritional quality of food distributed and to increasing demand for healthier choices among partners, staff, and recipients.
“Foodlink’s mission is to leverage the power of food to build healthier communities. As the Feeding America food bank based in Rochester, New York, we serve 10 counties in western New York — a 7,000-square-mile area with a network of more than 400 member agencies. According to Feeding America’s most recent Map the Meal Gap report, nearly 150,000 people — including 50,000 children — live in food-insecure households within Foodlink’s service area. Our programs, services, and member agencies serve more than 200,000 people on an annual basis.
"Foodlink is committed to increasing our distribution of fresh, nutritious food and decreasing our distribution of unhealthy foods and beverages. We are proud to be in the second cohort of food banks working with Partnership for a Healthier America to achieve these distribution goals around the country.
"In the first year of our PHA relationship, we finalized and made public our own Nutrition Ranking, now called Choose, and we assessed our baseline distribution metrics. Additionally, we were awarded two small grants from PHA. First, we were grateful to receive the Stand for Fruits & Veggies grant, which enabled us to purchase a new, large, and beautiful cooler for produce in our Member Marketplace. Second, we were selected to receive the WellSCAN grant to help us rank mixed donated product.
"We look forward to our continued work with PHA toward our goal of meeting our healthy food distribution goals.”
