NAMA’s Commitments
With nearly five million vending machines and 1,000 member companies in the United States, the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) is bringing better-for-you offerings to consumers on the go everywhere.
NAMA has committed to pilot SNAP eligibility in vending machines and micro-markets. PHA and NAMA will jointly identify vending machines and/or micro-markets in five census tracts whose address (or address of building in nearest proximity) is located in a low-income and low-access census tract. Once identified, PHA will ensure that all of the offerings in the machine or micro-market meet its nutritional standards and NAMA will submit them for SNAP eligibility approval to the qualifying agency.
NAMA’s commitment will support PHA’s goal of adding 100 million additional servings of vegetables, fruits, and beans to the marketplace by 2025, which was announced alongside the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health on September 28, 2022.
In 2019, NAMA pledged to increase the percentage of healthier food beverage options to 33% over the course of 3 years, which represents a nearly 40% increase over current levels. The better-for-you options will meet at least two public health nutrition standards, ensuring that consumers will be have easy access to good food wherever they work, play, and live.

One Year In: The NAMA Public Health Commitment
Just over a year ago, NAMA, the association representing the $31 billion US convenience services industry, launched a major public health commitment in conjunction with Partnership for a Healthier America to substantially increase the percentage of ‘better for you’ offerings in our nation’s vending machines to 33% of all available offerings -- a nearly 40% increase from existing levels.
