In 2013, NIKE, Inc. joined PHA’s Let’s Move! Active Schools initiative with a $50 million commitment to create more active schools and physically active communities around the country over five years.

As part of its commitment to create a more physically active population by convening multiple stakeholders and mobilizing key audiences, Nike was a lead partner in helping PHA develop its seven Essential Practices for Youth Physical Activity, also known as physical activity design filters. These evidence-based design elements are now being used to guide PHA partners in developing high-quality, physical activity programming for youth that is age appropriate, fun and accessible to all age groups.

“This partnership is part of Nike’s long-term commitment to help our nation’s youth lead more active and healthy lives. All kids deserve a chance to realize their full potential and we believe creating active schools will help kids do better in school and most importantly in life.

~NIKE, Inc. President and CEO Mark Parker

Through $750,000 in grants, Nike is enabling schools across the country to launch running clubs through a partnership with Marathon Kids, a nonprofit organization that engages kids in a positive, simple, goal-driven running program focused on achieving incremental goals with long-term benefits. In partnership with Let’s Move! Active Schools, Nike and Marathon Kids have already reached more than a quarter of a million youth aged four to 12 and expect to reach up to half a million kids over the next two years. Since the start of its commitment, NIKE invested a total of $41,907,209. It has made 84% progress towards meeting its five-year goal of investing $50 million over five years.
