A Letter from PHA's Board of Directors

June 6, 2022

Dear Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) Community,

On behalf of the PHA Board of Directors, we are writing to share that after a successful chapter of leadership, Nancy E. Roman has decided to step down as CEO of PHA.

We are grateful for Nancy’s leadership, as PHA has never been stronger as an institution, both programmatically and financially. Nancy will continue to lead PHA until her successor is named, and work with the Board through the transition. We anticipate a successor to be named before the end of 2022.

Under Nancy’s tenure, PHA has been at the forefront in the movement toward Food Equity. She united PHA’s diverse work under a common metric – servings of fruits and vegetables and set a bold goal to add 50 million servings of fruits and vegetables to the marketplace by 2025. Some of the specific programs launched and outcomes during her tenure include:

  • Good Food for All has delivered 18 million servings of fruits and vegetables in 28 cities – leaving a lasting habit of produce consumption

  • Food banks serving 14 million people with better food

  • Veggies Early and Often has resulted in 150 new vegetable forward foods for infants and toddlers with no added sugar or sodium

  • Pass the Love with Michelle Obama launched vegetable forward meal kits that have led to multiple city pilots around how and where to sell kits at prices that compete with fast food

The PHA Board of Directors has engaged Koya Partners, the executive search firm with an exclusive focus on recruiting CEOs and senior leaders to mission-driven roles, to lead a nationwide search for its next President & CEO.

Individuals interested in the opportunity themselves, or in nominating a leader, are invited to email pha_ceo@koyapartners.com.

Yours truly,

Tracey Griffin & William Dietz Co-Chairs of the PHA Search Committee
