    Implement a local food procurement program that increases procurement of local and sustainable foods.

    The University of Texas, Arlington Dining Services employs a number of sustainable procurement practices including offering Humane Farm Animal Care certified cage-free shell eggs, rBGH-free milk and yogurt, Seafood Watch Certified fish, fair trade coffee and lower antibiotic poultry. Dining Services and its foodservice provider, Chartwells, have developed partnerships with farmers and local distributors in order to increase local procurement of seasonally available produce from within a 150-mile radius of the campus. Local partners and produce are also featured during Farm to Fork events at the Connections Café.

    The University of Texas, Arlington's Department of Campus Recreation offers nutrition consultations that are available to students, Maverick Activity Center members and University faculty and staff at a reasonable rate. Nutrition consultations include an initial assessment with a registered, licensed dietitian as well as one required follow-up session. Additional sessions are available as needed; and as agreed upon by the client and dietitian. Nutrition counseling is available for the following: weight management, weight loss, weight gain, sports nutrition, wellness and preventive nutrition, eating disorders and disordered eating and basic nutrition education.

    The University of Texas, Arlington UTA Food Pantry provides students with the opportunity to receive a mixture of non-perishable foods to supplement their monthly food costs. Food pantry distributions occur every other Thursday and are open to any student, faculty or staff with a University I.D.

    Offer non-academic cooking skills classes that are available to students and incorporate fruits and vegetables.

    The University of Texas, Arlington's Teaching Kitchen is a platform allowing students to explore food, culinary and nutritional literacy that will positively impact food choices and experiences. Teaching Kitchen participants learn basic cooking techniques, chef best practices, and food preparation from the University's Executive Chef. All Teaching Kitchen classes are offered at no charge in the Connection Café in a classroom-style setting.
