    University of North Carolina’s Center for Student Well-Being strives to provide education and develop students’ knowledge as it relates to their health and well-being. Campus-wide programming, workshops and online resources are available on wellness focus areas including, but not limited to, alcohol and substance use prevention, sexual health, nutrition and body image, mental health and violence prevention.

    Implement a program/policy that supports and accommodates breastfeeding for individuals on campus.

    Progress To Date

    University of North Carolina Greensboro has established a goal to support nursing mothers with a breastfeeding friendly campus. University and North Carolina State Government policy ensures nursing mothers have the time and space to express breast milk periodically during the workday. The University offers three permanent Nursing Mother Rooms, as well as two flexible rooms, with a clean, private space for mothers to pump or directly breastfeed. Refrigeration is not provided, and mothers are encouraged to bring coolers or ice packs. Campus-sponsored childcare facilities encourage breastfeeding onsite and are committed to feeding breastmilk provided to the facility.

    Offer non-academic cooking skills classes that are available to students and incorporate fruits and vegetables.

    Progress To Date

    Each month, University of North Carolina Dining participates in the Compass “Teaching Kitchen” initiative. Students have the opportunity to make healthy recipes that are easy and convenient to prepare in their dorm rooms or kitchens. A chef and Registered Dietitian lead each event to share cooking and preparation methods, along with nutritional information about the item. Recent Teaching Kitchen classes included Pumpkin Pie in a Jar and Vegan Energy Bites.
