    In FY2019, San Antonio Food Bank provided 5,113 nutrition, health and wellness classes to 81,358 participants. Though the number of classes overall has decreased, there were 18% more participants engaged in nutrition education over baseline. Nutrition education topics included diabetes prevention, Kids Café, cooking demos and worksite wellness.

    In FY2019, San Antonio Food Bank engaged 4,934 volunteers, built and refreshed 53 square food gardens and conducted 374 garden classes throughout the community at schools, hospitals and senior sites.

Partner Statement

The San Antonio Food Bank is a member of the Feeding America national network of food banks, serving a sixteen-county territory in Southwest Texas. For almost 40 years, it has been a proven innovator in the fields of nutrition education, client services, food security, and agricultural development. The San Antonio Food Bank has committed to providing health improvements across six areas of emphasis: produce for in-home meal preparation, healthy meals for kids through afterschool programs, meals for children during the summer, weekend nonperishable food items for kids, and recipes and gardening classes for seniors and children. Metrics for the previous fiscal year follow (July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019): 20,934,099 lbs. produce for in-home meal preparation; 211,636 meals for kids during afterschool programs; 196,944 meals for children during the summer; 19,758 backpacks for kids; 64 recipes for children and seniors, as well as 374 gardening classes also intended for children and seniors.

San Antonio Food Bank still maintains a commitment to increase these six metrics by June of 2020, each by 15%.
