    Implement a local food procurement program that increases procurement of local and sustainable foods.

    Progress To Date

    In 2009-2010 Mary Baldwin University began a campaign to increase sustainable practices and procurement of local food. Since then, the University launched its "Buy Local" program, implemented a "Destination Local-Fresh" food bar in the dining hall highlighting local foods purchased and prepared for students and celebrates Food Day with a farmers market and a dinner featuring local foods. In SY 2019-2020, local purchases account for 35.5% or $362,795 of the total food and beverage budget. In SY 2020-2021, the University expects to increase its local purchases by 3%.

    Mary Baldwin University offers at least one wellness meal at breakfast, lunch and dinner at its Hunt Dining Hall. Wellness meals are promoted to students, faculty and staff at the point of presentation with a signage and a display plate showcasing the full meal.

    Progress To Date

    Mary Baldwin University provides students with access to a Registered Dietitian to conduct nutrition assessments and nutrition counseling. The dietitian receives student referrals from the Health center, coaches and professors. She is involved in new student and parent orientation and also provides classroom lectures on nutrition topics.

    Mary Baldwin University has dedicated 78 percent of its 40,000 square foot Physical Activities Center to areas for physical activity and recreation.

    Progress To Date

    Mary Baldwin University offers a range of diverse competitive and non-competitive fitness opportunities and is making progress toward its goal to provide 40 unique physical activity offerings. The University is currently offering 25 activity opportunities including at least 10 varsity athletic offerings, six club sports, three recreational clubs with an activity focus, five unique group fitness classes and a weekly Beat Cancer Bootcamp.

    Provide at least one outdoor running/walking track that is open and available for use to individuals on campus and the community for at least three (3) hours per day.

    The Mary Baldwin University Track is open and available to students, faculty, staff and the members of the general public at all times, except during use by the varsity soccer team.

    Implement an integrated, comprehensive wellness program for individuals on campus that is provided annually.

    Progress To Date

    Mary Baldwin University has established an interdisciplinary team to determine the needs and direction of the University for wellness programming. The team consists of representatives from the Health Center, Psychology and Sociology, Student Life, Academics and Nutrition and Wellness and meets each Fall and Spring. Current wellness offerings include classroom education, campus seminars, small group speakers and individual coaching and education on a wide range of wellness topics such as emotional, physical, social, spiritual, occupational, environmental and intellectual wellness. Resident assistants receive training on wellness opportunities.

    Offer a rewards-on-benefits structured program that gives insurance premium discounts and/or rebates to individuals on campus who participate in a wellness program designated by the health insurer or campus.

    Progress To Date

    Mary Baldwin University provides access to a quarterly wellness initiative. Employees receive $25 per month for completing a biometric screening and online health survey and participating in a variety of activities designed to improve health and well-being. Employees are required to select eight activities per year which include, but are not limited to, participating in annual screenings, wellness exams and immunizations, engaging in health, nutrition and/or physical activity programs and attending wellness events and wellness coaching.
