    Progress To Date

    California State University, Sacramento makes free water available in all dining, recreational and educational facilities through a combination of water fountains and filling stations. An effort is underway to install a filtered water-filling station in every building on campus.

    California State University, Sacramento provides students with access to a Registered Dietitian to conduct nutrition assessments and provide free nutrition and wellness counseling on a wide range of nutritional and medical concerns, including, but not limited to, weight management, diabetes, heart disease, eating disorders and food insecurity.

    Offer a bicycle share/rental program and/or a subsidized bicycle purchase program for all individuals on campus.

    Peak Adventures, an outdoor recreation program of Associated Students at California State University, Sacramento, provides access to bike rentals, bike locker rentals and a full-service bike shop. Students, faculty and staff receive a 10% discount on all retail purchases and repairs.

    In 2017, California State University, Sacramento received the Silver level Bicycle Friendly University designation by the League of American Bicyclists.

    California State University, Sacramento provides students with free access to The WELL recreation and wellness facility for 16 hours per day, on average, each week.

    California State University, Sacramento offers a range of diverse competitive and non-competitive fitness opportunities with at least nine small group training classes, five types of classes in the "Learn To Series", self defense instruction, the Start Strong faculty and staff fitness class, 26 unique group fitness classes and 16 intramural leagues for different sports.

    Offer, without a user fee, a minimum of one (1) monthly 'how to' physical activity/ movement class that introduces students to new activities.

    Progress To Date

    California State University, Sacramento offers the monthly Perform WELL Workshop Series to introduce, improve, and refine technique on various fitness topics including, but not limited to, boxing, use of kettlebells, running and HITT workouts. Additionally, the Learn To Series provides free four week sessions on yoga, Pilates, meditation, using a heart rate monitor and using a foam roller. The Learn To Series was designed to introduce important principles and moves to prepare participants for future fitness instruction.

    Offer a rental outdoor recreation equipment program for students.

    Progress To Date

    California State University, Sacramento provides students with the opportunity to check out and rent a range of outdoor equipment. Free equipment for check out includes badminton racquets, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls and volleyballs. Students may also rent camping equipment, snowboards, snow shoes and bikes for a nominal fee.

    Offer non-academic cooking skills classes that are available to students and incorporate fruits and vegetables.

    Progress To Date

    California State University, Sacramento offers free cooking demonstrations throughout the year as part of its wellness workshop series. Each workshop teaches basic cooking skills utilizing fruit and vegetable ingredients and provides participants with free food and a recipe to try again at home. During the Fall 2018 and Spring 2019 semester, 16 cooking demos were offered.

Partner Statement

Sacramento State University has been working collaboratively across the campus with our students, staff, and faculty to develop a leadership team to support our PHA commitment for a comprehensive wellness program. We are working toward developing and implementing a walking path on campus, as well as making more nutritious food choices available and at campus dining venues. We participated in the 2018 PHA Healthy Campus Week and attended the PHA annual meeting in DC. We have met our commitments for tray-less dining in dining venues; and meet 7 of our 10 commitments for Physical Activity/Movement commitments. We look forward to continuing to meet our PHA commitments by 2021.
