The nation’s top food companies partner with the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) to offer healthier foods to consumers and provide access to nutrition information in the marketplace.

Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation

Commitment:

  • Started on May 17, 2010
  • 6 year commitment

In 2010, the Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation (HWCF) signed an agreement with PHA, pledging to take actions aimed at reducing 1.5 trillion product calories in the marketplace.

Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation manufacturing companies pursued their calorie reduction goals by growing and introducing lower‐calorie options; changing product recipes where possible to lower the calorie content of current products; or reducing portion sizes of existing single‐serve products. All these changes were to help Americans reduce their calorie intake, improve their overall nutrition and close the energy gap.

By 2015, HWCF surpassed its goal, removing 6.4 trillion calories from items in the marketplace and exceeding its pledge by more than 400 percent. In 2016, we recognized HWCF with PHA’s Healthier Future Award for its effort to address obesity rates among children and adults.
