“Florida International University (FIU) places a high value on health and engages the university community to adopt healthier behaviors thereby ‘making the healthy choice the easy choice.’ FIU is proud to be one of the first universities to join the Healthier Campus Initiative (HCI) through the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA).

~ Florida International University, 2015 PHA Progress Report

Going off to college signals a time of newfound independence for young adults, who are suddenly able to make their own choices about what they eat and how much activity they get – or don’t get. But college and university students, faculty and staff now find themselves in healthier environments thanks to the work being done by PHA partners like Florida International University (FIU).

On November 16, 2014, FIU teamed up with PHA to meet 23 guidelines, all with an eye toward shaping good habits for our future leaders and parents. Over three years, FIU will make changes such as providing healthier food and beverage options in dining venues, creating opportunities for physical activity and offering wellness programming on campus. With more than 51,000 students and approximately 9,000 members of the faculty and staff, FIU’s changes will have a major impact on healthier living now and for generations to come.
