PHA Commits to Adding 100 Million Servings of Produce to Marketplace Ahead of White House Conference on Hunger

September 15, 2022

Leading national non-profit working to address food equity announces bold new effort to dramatically increase access to produce for all Americans by 2025

White House Conference Logo WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), the premier national nonprofit working toward food equity, announced that it will add 100 million additional servings of vegetables, fruits, and beans to the marketplace around the country by 2025. PHA’s announcement comes ahead of its participation in the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health on September 28, which will be the first White House conference on hunger in 50 years.

Fifty years ago, the first White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health led to the establishment of groundbreaking programs like school lunches, SNAP, WIC, as well as changes to how we label foods.

PHA's commitment to add 100 million servings of produce to the marketplace by 2025 Now, for one in six Americans, healthy food is still either too expensive, too far away, or both. In response to this crisis, PHA is working closely with both the White House and the CDC Foundation to engage companies in working toward long-term food equity across the country.

“Far too many Americans lack the kinds of food and quality of food that builds long-lasting health. The pandemic and record-breaking inflation have only made this crisis even worse,” said Nancy E. Roman, President & CEO of Partnership for a Healthier America. “Everyone deserves access to health-building vegetables and fruit as well as other good food. We are absolutely committed to leveraging this moment – in partnership with White House, CDC Foundation, and the private sector – to create a more equitable food system where everyone, no matter what zip code they live in, has access to good food.”

This commitment expands on the organization’s commitment that was made as part of the 2021 UN Food Systems Summit. PHA’s existing programming has already brought over 18 million servings of fruits and vegetables to more than 20,000 families in 29 cities through Good Food for All. In addition, PHA’s Pass the Love w/ Waffles + Mochi campaign distributed over a million healthy meals to food insecure families.
