PARTNERSHIP FOR A HEALTHIER AMERICA NEWEST CHARITY MILES PARTNER

App Encourages People to Be More Physically Active For Charity

Washington, D.C., January 8, 2013 – The Partnership For A Healthier America (PHA), which works with the private sector and PHA Honorary Chair First Lady Michelle Obama to solve the childhood obesity crisis, today became the sixteenth charity to join the Charity Miles App.

Charity Miles is a free iPhone and Android app that enables people to earn money for charity while walking, running or biking. Walkers and runners earn 25¢ per mile; bikers earn 10¢ per mile, courtesy of Charity Miles and their corporate sponsors. People can use the app anytime and anywhere they have GPS reception for their iPhone or Android. No special event is required.

“The Charity Miles app is a great way to get active while doing good,” said PHA CEO Lawrence A. Soler. “I’m pleased that PHA is now able to give moms, dads and families a fun way to get moving, and at the same time to help support the work we do every day to help make the healthy choice the easy choice for busy parents and families.”

In addition to PHA, Charity Miles’ features 15 of the world’s top high-impact charities, including: (1) Stand Up To Cancer; (2) Autism Speaks; (3) Feeding America; (4) The World Food Programme; (5) Wounded Warrior Project; (6) ASPCA; (7) The Michael J. Fox Foundation For Parkinson’s Research; (8) Habitat for Humanity; (9) (RED) to benefit The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria; (10) Every Mother Counts; (11) The Nature Conservancy; (12) The Ironman Foundation; (13) Achilles International; (14) Pencils of Promise; and (15) DoSomething.org.

Since launching last June, Charity Miles has already grown to over 55,000 members who have collectively walked, run and biked more than 580,000 miles to earn more $105,000 for these charities. Charity Miles will be awarded the Dewey Wilburne Interactive Award at this year’s SXSW Festival. The Huffington Post and Heartfelt Foundation also recently awarded them a Millennial Impact Grant and Director’s Choice Award in their Ignite Good Challenge.

“We are very excited to be working with PHA,” says Charity Miles Founder, Gene Gurkoff. All of our members are deeply committed to healthy, purposeful living. They’ll be thrilled to help lead the charge against childhood obesity.”

About The Partnership For A Healthier America

PHA is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. PHA was created in 2010 in conjunction with – but independent from – First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. PHA is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts. The organization brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. Most importantly, PHA ensures that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress its partners are making.
