***COVERAGE OPPORTUNITIES*** Partnership for a Healthier America's Second Building a Healthier Future Summit: Highlight Events

First Lady Michelle Obama Keynotes, Media Availabilities With Newark Mayor Cory Booker and Former U.S. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, Celebrated Chefs and Budding Entrepreneurs Featured in Main Plenary

WASHINGTON, DC (February 27, 2013) – The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), which works with its Honorary Chair First Lady Michelle Obama and the private sector to end childhood obesity in the U.S. is offering several media coverage opportunities at its second Building a Healthier Future Summit, taking place March 6 to 8, 2013, at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C.

Media interested in covering the plenary sessions or attending either of the media availabilities should contact PHA for credentials by emailing news@ahealthieramerica.org.

All media should sign in at the press room, located in the Potomac Room on the XX level of the Hyatt, before heading to the main plenary or the media availabilities. The press room will open at 7 a.m. on Thursday, March 7 and Friday, March 8.

Thursday, March 7

8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. – Room: Independence Ballroom

Opening Plenary: State of the Movement: A Panel of Experts; End Childhood Obesity Innovation Challenge Finalists pitch to panel of judges; PHA will highlight its current partners and announce several new commitments.

Panel Moderator: The Honorable Bill Frist, former U.S. Senate majority leader and PHA honorary vice-chair

12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. – Room: Independence Ballroom

Great American School Lunch Challenge: Assistant White House Chef Sam Kass will emcee a lunchtime cook off featuring Food Network Star Anne Burrell and James Beard Award-winning chef Jose Garces, who will each be joined by food nutrition specialists from two different school districts. The teams will have 30 minutes to see who can whip up the most creative, appetizing and visually appealing school lunch, while also meeting nutritional and budgetary guidelines. Our panel of seven judges will determine the winners of the event.

Chefs: Food Network Star Anne Burrell and James Beard Award Winning Chef Jose Garces.

Judges: Tim Carman, food writer, Washington Post, Debra Eschmeyer, co-founder and director, Policy and Partnerships, FoodCorps; Scott Mowbray, editor-in-chief, Cooking Light; Amie Valpone, editor-in-chief, The Healthy Apple, Cooking up Change, Grand Prize Winners 2011.

2:30 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. – MEDIA AVAILABILITY – Room: Wilson

Topic: The Great American School Lunch Challenge

Featuring: White House Assistant Chef and Senior Policy Advisor for Healthy Food Initiatives, Sam Kass, and Great American School Lunch Challenge competitors and advisors, who include Food Network Star Anne Burrell; James-Beard Award Winning Chef Jose Garces; Houston Independent School District senior food services administrator Brian Giles and operations manager Pamela Guillory; Colonial School District nutrition director Paula Angelucci and cafeteria manager Renee Elliott.

Friday, March 8

1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. – Location Lisner Auditorium, GWU, 730 21st Street NW

First Lady Michelle Obama, PHA’s honorary chairwoman, will keynote the closing session. Newark Mayor Cory Booker, PHA’s honorary vice chair, will also be speaking during the closing session and will announce the winner of the End Childhood Obesity Innovation Challenge
