Announcing Novo Nordisk as 2015 Summit National Sponsor

Novo Nordisk Supports 2015 Building a Healthier Future Summit as National Sponsor

Washington, D.C. (February 12, 2015) — The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) today announced that for the third year, global healthcare leader Novo Nordisk will serve as a national sponsor of its Building a Healthier Future Summit, which brings together private sector, government, academic and philanthropic leaders to discuss real solutions to ending America’s childhood obesity crisis.

Novo Nordisk, the world’s leading diabetes care company, is committed to turning the tide of the diabetes pandemic and supporting Americans in living fuller, healthier lives. Obesity, a significant risk factor for developing Type 2 diabetes, continues to present a serious health epidemic for children and adolescents in the United States. As such, Novo Nordisk recognizes the need to encourage healthier lifestyles among families.

“We are proud that Novo Nordisk has decided to once again collaborate with PHA to take action in the fight to improve children’s health,” said Lawrence A. Soler, president and CEO of PHA. “Novo Nordisk is a company with a rich history in pioneering innovative strategies to improve health, and we look forward to once again joining forces with them.”

“With obesity and diabetes continuing to rise as global health challenges, we feel it is essential to help provide families with the tools they need in order to live a healthier lifestyle,” said Todd Hobbs, chief medical officer, Novo Nordisk Inc. “We strongly support PHA’s mission to bring together public, private and government leaders to help solve the childhood obesity crisis.”

The 2015 Summit features breakout sessions focused on topics that include corporate innovation for food and health and wellness, marketing to younger consumers, sustainability and the future of food, and the path forward to health equity, among many others. Leaders from corporations and organizations including Campbell Soup Company, The Coca-Cola Company, Hampton Creek, Luvo, Mars Food North America, PepsiCo, Self magazine, Share Our Strength and Walmart Foundation will speak at the event. PHA Honorary Chair First Lady Michelle Obama will keynote. For more information, visit www.ahealthieramerica.org/summit.

About PHA: The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with – but independent from – First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. PHA is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that is led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts. PHA brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. Most important, PHA ensures that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased, third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making.
