Half the U.S. population visits a convenience store every day, so the food in stores shouldn’t just be healthier, it should also be more affordable. PHA works with partners like Ricker Oil Company to transform the marketplace by ensuring that convenience stores across the nation are fully stocked with healthier options.
Ricker Oil Company, which owns and operates Ricker’s convenience stores in Indiana, made a commitment to PHA on October 20, 2016 at the NACS show, the convenience store industry’s largest event. Over three years, Ricker’s convenience stores will move toward delivering more nutritious options to meet the needs of the children, families and communities they serve. Not only that, but the company’s employees will benefit with the option to receive a 50 percent discount on all fresh fruit and veggie purchases. And because we know shoppers respond strongly to marketing, Ricker’s convenience stores will market healthier options at the register!
Ricker’s work will continue to help the convenience store industry begin to shift its image to that of an alternative source for healthier, affordable foods.
