3 year commitment

“New Horizon Academy, the largest family-owned early childhood and education organization, is committed to providing children with a healthy start in life. We take pride in our commitment to Partnership for a Healthier America. We have increased the amount of daily physical activity, improved the quality of food offered, promoted family breast feeding practices in our program, and provide education to parents and teachers. Consistent with our mission of continuous improvement and building the self-esteem of our children and employees, we will continue our efforts to meet our commitment. We are honored to support children and families create a healthy lifestyle.

~ New Horizons Academy in 2014 Annual Progress Report Partner Statement

Back in 2011, New Horizon Academy, a childcare company based in Minnesota, teamed up with us to provide a healthy environment in its 67 centers, which serve approximately 7,500 children in Minnesota and Idaho. As part of its commitment with PHA, New Horizon Academy made the decision to eliminate sugar-sweetened beverages, increase fruits and vegetables served at meals and eliminate fried foods served in its centers. The company even reduced the amount of time kids spent in front of television and worked to ensure children in its care engaged in at least 1-2 hours of physical activity daily.

New Horizon Academy completed its commitment with us in 2014, bringing PHA and all early childhood and out-of-school time partners closer to a collective goal of offering the more than six million children in their care healthier food and increased physical activity by 2020.
