Commitment:

Video games are a fixture of life for today’s kids, but playing them doesn’t have to be a sedentary experience. That’s the concept behind Blue Goji, a wellness technology startup focused on the health of its users. Blue Goji uses virtual reality and gaming technology to create an interactive, aerobic experience that allows users to connect to cardio equipment through specially designed controllers.

Through its commitment to PHA, the company has promised to deploy its interactive gaming technology in the battle against childhood obesity. The company is harnessing the creativity of students in the School of Public Health and the School of Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley, bringing them together to develop a health, wellness and learning program for children in underserved communities. They’ll donate exercise equipment, tablets and apps for children in low-income neighborhoods, who will take part in a pilot program run by local organizations. Blue Goji will then take what it learns from this experience and use it to develop a new physical activity and fitness game that it will ultimately take to the marketplace.

In addition, the company has promised to partner with community-based organizations serving low-income communities to donate resources that keep kids active while helping them learn more about health and wellness.
