“The University of Miami is committed and excited to strengthen current policies and procedures while implementing innovative programs to give students full access to healthy food options, numerous physical activity selections and provide support to lead a healthy lifestyle on campus.

~ University of Miami, 2016 PHA Progress Report

Going off to college signals a time of newfound independence for young adults, who are suddenly able to make their own choices about what they eat and how much activity they get – or don’t get. But college and university students, faculty and staff now find themselves in healthier environments thanks to the work being done by PHA partners like University of Miami (UM).

On November 16, 2014, UM teamed up with PHA to meet 23 guidelines, all with an eye toward shaping good habits for our future leaders and parents. Over three years, UM will make changes such as providing healthier food and beverage options in dining venues, creating opportunities for physical activity and offering wellness programming on campus. With more than 16,100 students and approximately 13,425 members of the faculty and staff on campus each year, UM’s changes will have an impact on healthier living now and for generations to come.
