PHA Lauds RWJF $500 Million Pledge

PHA Statement on Robert Wood Johnson Foundation $500 Million Pledge to Ensure All Children Grow Up at a Healthy Weight

Washington, D.C. (February 12, 2015) — Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) CEO Lawrence A. Soler released the following statement today in support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s announcement that it is committing an additional $500 million over the next 10 years to help all children grow up at a healthy weight:

“In the last several decades, as childhood obesity rates rose, organizations from across the public, private, non-profit, government and academic sectors began collaborating to help reverse the problem. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation has been at the forefront of this movement. I congratulate the Foundation for committing today to an additional $500 million over the next 10 years to help all children grow up at a healthy weight. This support will be crucial in our effort to build upon the early signs we are seeing of real progress in overcoming the obesity crisis.“

“As one of PHA’s founding organizations, RWJF’s leadership and support has been critical to our efforts to engage the private sector in making healthy choices easier for busy parents and families. Today, nearly 100 private sector organizations are working with PHA to make healthier options more accessible and affordable. We look forward to our continued work with RWJF to ensure a healthier future for the next generation.”

About PHA: The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with – but independent from – First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. PHA is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that is led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts. PHA brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. Most important, PHA ensures that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making.
