Aloha Island Mart Stores and Their Customers Raises More Than $10,000 to Support Partnership for a Healthier America to Accelerate Its Mission

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 24, 2018) - Aloha Petroleum, Ltd., one of the largest gasoline marketers and convenience store operators in the state of Hawaii, raised more than $10,000 to support the work of Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA).

Throughout April and May, customers at Aloha Island Mart locations could add a $1 or more donation at checkout to support a healthier future for Hawaii’s and our nation’s children.

“Today’s families are on the move and finding healthier options on the go can be challenging,” said Nancy E. Roman, President and CEO of Partnership for a Healthier America. “Not only is Aloha Petroleum making it easier for local families to have healthier options wherever they are, they are supporting our mission to ensure that the next generation of children grows up free from disease and chronic illnesses. Thank you to Aloha’s leadership, staff and customers for creating a healthier environment for children in Hawaii.”

Aloha first partnered with PHA in October 2016 and is expanding its healthier food options in Aloha Island Mart stores, and will continue to make those choices more affordable while supporting its healthier options through in-store marketing and promotions.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our customers for their generosity in ensuring that Hawaii’s children and families have access to healthy and nutritious foods,” said Richard Parry, president and chief executive officer of Aloha Petroleum. “This year, we were able to increase donations to PHA by more than 80 percent, which is significant. We look forward to continuing our partnership and providing an expanded selection of healthy food and beverage offerings in our Aloha Island Marts.”

The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with—but independent from— former First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. PHA is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that is led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts. PHA brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. Most important, PHA ensures that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making.
