Time Inc. Joins Partnership for a Healthier America as Exclusive Media Sponsor of 2013 Building a Healthier Future Summit

Washington, D.C. (December 5, 2012)—The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA), which works with the private sector to end the childhood obesity crisis, today announced that Time Inc. has signed on as the exclusive media sponsor of the 2013 Building a Healthier Future Summit, held March 6 to 8, 2013, at the Grand Hyatt in Washington, D.C.

Time Inc. will support the Summit across its various print and digital properties. In addition, its FORTUNE and Cooking Light brands will have an onsite presence at the Summit, including participation in obesity-related panel discussions, judging event-related competitions and exhibiting in the Summit’s Collaboration Hall. With a combined audience of more than 130 million, Time Inc. serves readers who are focused on the health of their families and their businesses, which complements the work of PHA and its partners.

“Time Inc. is committed to helping end childhood obesity by shining a spotlight on the problem as well as the good work that so many folks are doing in this space,” said Lawrence A. Soler, PHA President and CEO. “We’re pleased to have them on board as the Summit’s exclusive media sponsor, and look forward to our continued work together to bring attention to this issue.”

“The issue of childhood obesity is of paramount importance to our nation and to the readers of our publications,” said Martha Nelson, Editorial Director of Time Inc. “We applaud the ongoing work of the PHA and recognize the value of the 2013 Building a Healthier Future Summit which works toward ending this crisis.”

The inaugural Building a Healthier Future Summit, a sold-out event held in November 2011, brought together leaders from industry, non-profit, government, philanthropic, and academic organizations. In 2013, PHA is expanding the Summit to include more attendees; more high-profile speakers; breakouts focused on solving theproblem – not just talking about it; a new twist on last year’s Great American Family Dinner Challenge; a brand new Innovation Challenge; and much more. The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with – but independent from – First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. PHA is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that is led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts. PHA brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. Most important, PHA ensures that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased, third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making.
