PHA Named One of ‘Partnerships That Will Change the World’ by Meredith Corporation

Meredith brands to increase health and wellness content across its brands and launch a campaign to encourage people to move 20.17 million miles in 2017

New York, NY (September 14, 2016) – Today the Partnership for a Healthier America, which works with the private sector and PHA Honorary Chair First Lady Michelle Obama to make healthier choices easier, announced a partnership with Meredith Corporation (meredith.com) to help its readers do just that.

At Meredith’s ‘Brandfront’ event, the multi-channel media company committed to encourage its audience of over 102 million women, which includes three out of four Millennial women, to stay healthy and active in 2017, and set a goal of helping consumers reach 20.17 million miles moved. In addition, the company set a goal of increasing its combined health and wellness coverage across its portfolio of brands to at least 20 percent of all editorial content.

“Partnerships like this one can have such a transformative impact,” said First Lady Michelle Obama. “We have seen that time and again in our work to raise healthier kids. Whether it’s inspiring millions of readers to make healthier choices, or encouraging people to be more active, I believe that our work together will make a real difference for our next generation.”

With “Partnerships That Will Change the World,” Meredith is forging alliances with likeminded organizations, committed to making a purposeful impact on the lives of Millennial women and their families. The program is designed to influence social change in a measurable and significant way. It will launch in January 2017 and include dedicated, cross-channel editorial – with video at the forefront – and amplified by social media.

Lawrence A. Soler, PHA President and CEO said, “Few understand the wants and needs of busy parents and families better than Meredith and its brands. They know the importance of addressing the health and wellness of their readers and are proving it – yet again – today.” Charity Miles – a program that provides donations to charities based on the miles people walk, bike or run – will be used to track progress toward Meredith’s goal of 20.17 million miles moved.

About PHA: The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with – but independent from – First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. PHA is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that is led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts. PHA brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. Most important, PHA ensures that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased, third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making.
