PHA Mourns Loss of Board Member, Physical Activity Leader Antronette K. Yancey MD, MPH

Washington, D.C. (April 29, 2013) – The Partnership for a Healthier America Board Chair, Dr. James R. Gavin III, and President and CEO Lawrence A. Soler released the following statement today:

“The loss of Toni Yancey will be felt at PHA and throughout the country. Toni was a tireless leader, board member, expert, activist, and friend. Her work improved the health of children and families across the nation and it will always serve as an inspiration. Her passionate exhortations to us to stay active and keep moving will continue to guide our behavior. Our thoughts and prayers are with Toni’s family and loved ones. At PHA, we will honor her the best way we know how: to work harder than ever to ensure that every child can experience the joy and health that results from being physically active.”

Dr. Yancey was a founding board member of the Partnership for a Healthier America, joining the board at its inception in 2010.

About the Partnership for a Healthier America:

The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with – but independent from – First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. PHA is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that is led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts. PHA brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. Most important, PHA ensures that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making.
