Partnership for a Healthier America's Drink Up Fountain Wins A Clio
Designed in collaboration with Y&R, VML and YesYesNo, this chatty fountain encourages everyone to drink more water more often
Washington, D.C. (October 7, 2015) – The Drink Up Fountain, a talking water fountain designed as part of the Partnership for a Healthier America’s (PHA) Drink Up effort to encourage people across the country to drink more water more often, was recognized recently with a bronze CLIO Award. In addition, this chatty fountain was highly commended by WPP’s WPPED Cream Awards.
The Drink Up Fountain was first launched in 2014 at New York City’s Brooklyn Bridge Park, and dispenses entertaining greetings and compliments to entice the drinker to continue sipping. See the fountain in action here.
“We set out to market water in a way never seen before – and what better way to do that than with a talking fountain,” said PHA CMO Drew Nannis. “We’re so honored by this recognition from the CLIO Awards and the WPPED Cream Awards and are looking forward to using this chatty fountain to continue reminding people that you are what you drink, and when you drink water you Drink Up.”
Drink Up has more than 50 supporters including bottlers, filtered water companies, water bottle producers and fountain manufacturers. It is led by PHA, which works with the private sector and PHA Honorary Chair First Lady Michelle Obama to make healthier choices easier for busy parents and families.
The Drink Up Fountain was created by advertising agencies Y&R New York and VML New York, and built by YesYesNo, LLC, a collective of interactive designers.
“Creating and launching the Drink Up Fountain was an incredibly rewarding, collaborative process for our team,” said Bruce Jacobson, Creative Director, Y&R New York. “We’re thrilled at the recognition from the CLIO and WPPED Cream Awards, but even more excited to have contributed to the efforts of Drink Up to get people to drink more water more often.”
“Working together, our teams were able to transform something people usually take for granted – water – and truly give it a personality through the fountain,” added Harsh Kapadia, Deputy Creative Director, VML New York. “We believe everybody who experiences the Drink Up Fountain now walks away with a clear understanding of how important water is to us.”

About PHA: The Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) is devoted to working with the private sector to ensure the health of our nation’s youth by solving the childhood obesity crisis. In 2010, PHA was created in conjunction with – but independent from – First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! effort. PHA is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization that is led by some of the nation’s most respected health and childhood obesity experts. PHA brings together public, private and nonprofit leaders to broker meaningful commitments and develop strategies to end childhood obesity. Most important, PHA ensures that commitments made are commitments kept by working with unbiased, third parties to monitor and publicly report on the progress our partners are making.
