Juan Martinez is working to train and empower the next generation of conservation and park stewards. At an early age, his passion to empower youth led him to direct the Sierra Club’s first environmental justice youth leadership academy in Los Angeles. In collaboration with the White House’s Council on Environmental Quality and with My Brother’s Keeper in Compton, CA, he pioneered bringing together youth leadership from LA and tribal communities in Alaska for a cultural exchange program called Fresh Tracks. In 2014 The National Science Teachers Association’s Multicultural and Equity Committee honored Juan for his work as a Global Explorer.
