Blue Apron Wants the Ritual of Home Cooking to be Accessible to All

by Linda Findley Kozlowski, President and Chief Executive Officer, Blue Apron

Blue Apron Marketplace Boxes Over the last few months, we have partnered with Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) on Pass the Love w/ Waffles + Mochi to support their work to meaningfully shift our food culture in pursuit of food equity.

Just like PHA, we believe that the ritual of home cooking should be accessible to all, and that a nutritious and delicious meal shouldn’t be intimidating, difficult or stressful to prepare. In fact, cooking and preparing food together with Blue Apron is all about empowerment. Our customers can create memories and share lifelong skills in the kitchen that can be passed down over generations. Every day, we see the many benefits that home cooking has on people’s lives. We know it can be a sustainable, affordable and enjoyable way to support a healthy lifestyle.

A healthy lifestyle is a journey and it goes far beyond just our physical health. Through our Wellness 360 campaign, we continue to highlight how home cooking can be beneficial to holistic wellness, showcasing its impact on physical, mental, relationship and financial health. Our partnership with PHA seeks to expand access to that concept of holistic health by continuing to demystify healthy eating and provide families direct access to high-quality, whole ingredients.

Blue Aron Box with Waffles + Mochi character In support of this work, we collaborated with PHA’s Pass the Love w/ Waffles + Mochi campaign to create limited-time meal kits that were available without a subscription. They were our most affordable meal kits yet and consisted of recipes with simple, nutritious and wholesome ingredients that are available in most local grocery stores, making it easy for families to replicate the dishes time and time again.

This year, we introduced Aprons for All, Blue Apron’s social and environmental impact initiative to advance food equity. Our approach is based on key actions that we believe we can make towards better living for everyone. As part of this initiative, we are committed to addressing the many barriers to health and wellbeing, including home cooking, which is why we were so excited to introduce the Blue Apron Pass the Love boxes as part of our overall work towards advancing food equity.

We know that our work to make a significant impact doesn’t stop there. In an effort to raise funds for the Pass the Love w/ Waffles + Mochi campaign, through September 15, Blue Apron is matching every qualifying dollar donated to PHA, up to a total of $55,000, using this dedicated link: cook.ba/passthelove. These funds will help PHA get closer to their goal of providing 1 million meals to families facing food insecurity across the country, so I encourage you to donate and spread the joy of home cooking with fresh ingredients.

To further raise awareness and encourage donations to PHA, on September 14, 2021 from 5-6pm ET, Blue Apron is hosting a free, live virtual cooking class with Former White House Senior Policy Advisor and Chef, Sam Kass. Mark your calendar and join us to watch Chef Sam Kass prepare a delicious recipe and learn a few cooking tips along the way.
