Soaring Costs are Impacting Families’ Access to Food this Holiday Season

Partnership for a Healthier America’s (PHA) programs are bridging the gap in our food system and helping families access affordable, healthy food

[Between rising food prices (up 5.4%), soaring costs for gasoline (up 49.6%), and skyrocketing rent (up 11.5%), millions of families already struggling with food insecurity are finding it even more difficult to put healthy meals on the table this holiday season.

At Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) we are committed to making Food Equity a reality. We need Food Equity so people in every zip code can have affordable access to healthy food - not just for the holidays - but on every day of the year.

That’s why PHA is working on multiple levels to fundamentally transform the American food system to make it more equitable. Here are some of the ways we’re fighting for Food Equity with the help of our food bank, local, and corporate partners.

  • We’re partnering with 58 food banks in 28 states - reaching more than 14 million people with healthier, high-quality, culturally relevant, and nutritious food. Our food bank partners have removed 19 million pounds of junk food from the charitable food system and replaced it with 115 million pounds of healthy food.

  • We’ve distributed 15 million servings of fresh produce to families across the country while working closely with retailers and entrepreneurs to come up with innovative new ways to provide long-term access to affordable, healthy food.

  • Our work with former First Lady Michelle Obama has enabled us to help 18,000 families in four cities cook 888,000 meals with our meal kits.

  • We’re working with companies to commit to a new, higher standard for vegetables in the marketplace.

Our programs are bridging and closing the gap in our food system while helping families weather rising costs this holiday season.
