PHA Applauds Partners for Opening Access to Healthy, Affordable Food in Chicago

WASHINGTON, DC—Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) CEO Lawrence A. Soler released the following statement in regard to food access events held in Chicago today and attended by PHA honorary co-chair First Lady Michelle Obama and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel:

“PHA is thrilled with the work going on in Illinois and across the country to help people who currently lack access to healthy, affordable foods. Mayor Emanuel and the First Lady’s announcement today that PHA partners Walgreens and SUPERVALU are opening or expanding stores in some of these Chicago neighborhoods is another positive step toward making the healthy choice the easy choice. It shows real momentum toward solving the issue of access to healthy, affordable foods. After all, it's one thing to know you have to eat more fruits and vegetables – it's another thing entirely to actually be able to buy them.”
