Good Food at Home Evaluations
Good Food at Home is our signature nutrition security program helping families with limited resources access good food and build healthy eating habits. Through Good Food at Home, families receive produce boxes or credits to purchase produce online. This program is continually evaluated to improve the program design, implementation, and impact. Discover what we have learned so far by reviewing the evaluations below.

2024 Evaluations
In 2024, we worked with local partners in New Orleans, LA; Wichita, KS; and Chicago, IL to purchase over 130,100 servings of fruits and vegetables for 1,016 families. Participants were given $60 of produce credits each month for three months to purchase fresh produce.
Our evaluation included a sales data analysis and conducting focus groups to learn about the participant experience, familiarity with MyPlate, and why some participants do not redeem the full amount of their benefits. We found that participants would benefit from more produce credits per month with an expanded selection of eligible items — particularly frozen produce.
These results informed our decision to expand eligible items that produce credits can be used for future activations and offer more credits to participants each month.

2023 Evaluations
In 2023, we worked with local partners in Washington, DC; Milwaukee, WI; Englewood, NJ; and Denver, CO to help 1,121 families purchase over 138,000 servings of produce. Each month for three months, participants were given $60 in produce credits.
We analyzed sales data as well as pre and post surveys to examine food and nutrition security, fruit and vegetable consumption, and online grocery shopping habits. We found that participants were satisfied with using the online ordering platform to access produce, and that the program improved their nutrition security.
These results confirmed that the Good Food at Home program is on the right track in helping families access good food.

2022 Evaluations
In 2022, we worked with local partners in Indianapolis, IN to operate our Good Food at Home program. This activation helped over 2,000 families buy more produce, purchasing over 650,000 servings. Our work had two phases:
- During phase one, half of the participants received boxes containing ~50 servings of fresh produce weekly for 10 weeks, while the other half of the participants did not.
- During phase two, participants in both groups received $50 in fresh produce credits monthly for three months.
Our evaluations showed that while both program models are effective at improving nutrition security and increasing fruit and vegetable consumption, 80% of participants preferred using produce credits over receiving boxes of produces.
These results helped move us towards primarily adopting the produce credit model in Good Food at Home activations.
